Wellington City - Rental!

Hi Everyone,

My sister and I are moving to Wellington at the start of April. We're looking for a nice safe area to live which is close to the centre and also on a really good bus route for commuting. We're ideally looking to rent a house. Can anyone help suggest suburbs of Wellington that we should look at?

Any help is very very appreciated!!

What budget? "Close to the centre" ie walking distance would be Aro Valley for cheap or Mt Victoria or Thordon or Brooklyn for more expensive.

Most of Wellington has an OK bus service, although it is expensive for cash fares. Newtown or even Haitaitai & Kiburnie are pretty close in, furhter out you'd want to be on a train route.

Have you looked at trademe?

If you're looking at places to live and want to check out the bus service to that area, you might find this site useful.

Hataitai would be good as it's within walking distance of town and heaps of buses pass through it. Also consider Mt Cook, Newtown, Brooklyn, Kelburn and Northland.

A little further out are the northern suburbs. Crofton Downs, Ngaio, Khandallah and Johnsonville have a train service.

Take a look at www.trademe.co.nz for an indication of cost.
