Safe to travel to Nz/Wellington?

Is it still safe to travel to New Zealand areas ie: Wellington? Has the earthquake cleared? Are shops / roads / attractions open? I'll be there in 2 weeks time. Thinking if I should abort this trip. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum :)

Is it still safe to travel to New Zealand areas ie: Wellington? ... yes

Has the earthquake cleared? ... the eartquake lasted just a few seconds long

Are shops / roads / attractions open? ... yes

I'll be there in 2 weeks time.... wonderful :)

Thinking if I should abort this trip.... that would be a shame

Thank you.... you're most welcome :)

******** disclaimer **********

while all of the above is true, be aware that NZ lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire - as does; ArgentinaBelizeBoliviaBrazil • Brunei • Canada • ColombiaChileCosta RicaEcuadorEast TimorEl Salvador • Micronesia • FijiGuatemalaHondurasIndonesiaJapan • Kiribati • Malaysia • Mexico • NicaraguaPalauPapua New GuineaPanamaPeruPhilippines • Russia • Samoa • Singapore • Solomon IslandsTonga • Tuvalu • United States

-- so more earthquakes could occur at any time at any of these locations. And wouldn't it be a shame to not travel anymore to any of these wonderful places.

Only a handful of buildings have closed due to the earthquake. It's business as usual. We had more damage and disruption from a big storm a couple of weeks earlier.

a natural disaster could occur at any time anywhere in the world - so you could be at risk sitting at home reading this post

everything is up and running - breathe and enjoy life -

you cannot control nature so just go with the flow

There have been a spate of fresh earthquakes today, similar strength to the strong one in July.

No reports of significant damage in Wellington. Seddon (to the Southwest, near Blenheim) took a bit of a hit. Quite a few buildings seriously damaged.

Parts of Wellington are closed while engineers check stuff.

This one happened during office hours, so lots of alarmed people in high-rise buildings, but no casualties.
