taxi rates in wellington

Hi there,

2 of us will be arriving at the Wellington Railway Station at 8.20pm on a Tuesday night. Need to get to St Gerard's Monastery on Hawker street , Mount Victoria ( 3-4km , 10 min ride ). Don't fancy walking in the dead of night trying to locate the Lambton Quay bus stop laden with luggage. Are there taxis readily available at the train station? What are the taxi rates in Wellington like for a short trip like that and is there a night time surcharge? Thanks!

Definitely take a taxi and you should't have any problem locating one outside the station. I am not absolutely sure of the cost but it would be around NZ$20 or less I guess.

The bus stops at Lambton Quay are very easy to find (at the end of a subway attached to the railway station), but when you have luggage and are unfamiliar with the area, a taxi will be best. Kiwi Cabs have the reputation for being the cheapest in Wellington if there happens to be one waiting there.

$15-$20 would be reasonable.
