wet, wet, wet - missing out the sights

We arrived @ Christchurch last Sat and currently in Queenstown. It has been raining e v e r y d a y since we arrived in NZ South island. We couldn't enjoy fully the sights, tours, etc For instance, yesterday we went for the Glenorchy/LOTR tour and has some nail biting experience when our vehicle tried to cross the swollen rivers. Finally we had to turn back as it would be dangerous if we proceed further.

We wanted to try the hot air balloon but no luck for the past 2 days and we'll be leaving for Mt Cook tomorrow. Disappointed and looking at the weather forecast for the next few days, looks like we'll leave NZ with wet & cold memories

Wait till next week when the rainy season starts! Should have come last week when it was 20+. Thats the thing about the weather!

Sorry to read of your disappointment with your holiday due to the weather. On the bright side, your safety id paramount and you are not leaving licking your wounds due accident or any other unforseen circumstancees.

winter isn't far off and we are well aware of the hazards that brings to our roads and many other challenges which we will need to cope with untill summer coms around again.

try to feel positive about your experiences and hopefully you will consider returneing to nz in the not to far future.

best of luck and safe travels

Did you spend any time in the North Island?

We have had magnificent day's with the only wet , but still warm day was yesterday. This morning the sun shines over Taupo and most of the North Island yet again.

A damp grey day today in Hamilton, but in Coromandel it is a glorious autuum day. It's all just a bit unpredicable this time of year. However there are some sights best enjoyed in rough weather.

That's strange Mike, just over the Kaimai 100kms away it's been a brilliantly sunny and calm day in Tauranga.

Totally sympathise with you !! We had good weather in North Island, but as soon as we hit Queenstown it has been awful. Couldn't get to Milford Sound the other day because of the flooding, and having already spent 4 days in Queenstown we felt we should head off somewhere else (and nothing exciting going on in QT anyway due to the weather). Unfortunately having already done the glaciers, felt only option was Dunedin and otago which has been ok - but no fjordland!!

Same as you - missed the scenery, and any activites we've tried to do have been cancelled. I know you can't predict the weather but I feel so disappointed - meant to be highlight of our honeymoon and it's been pretty rubbish. Leaving for Singapore tomorrow and I can't wait !!

BigSooze, I am puzzled.

Milford Sound was closed for one or two days due to flooding on the road. The trips to Doubtful Sound have been running as usual and many (myself included) believe Doubtful is the more stunning fiord. if 'stuck' in Queenstown for 4 days why didn't you go to Doubtful? Or Milford may have been an option on at least two days.

After seven months of severe drought conditions in Otago the rain is much needed, however it's always a shame when a trip doesn't reach expectations. I hope you get a chance to return one day to enjoy the highlights missed on this visit :)
