Hi I have been there 3 times in june/july. Yes it can be cold. Warm jackets along with a thermal with beanie and scarf usually does it for us and we are from the tropics and cope ok. the wind can be icy so we just rug up. the bigger of the campers are heated but the smaller as in 2/3 person usually supply a heater. companies will supply extra bedding if asked. Look into other forums about road conditions ect as this will also help you out but yu may be used to driving in similar.

as Billy Connoly once said whilst touring NZ 'There is no such thing as cold weather, just wrong clothing'.

As above, dress warmly. June /July is when winter strikes, so the roads can be hazardous. Keep an ear. On the weather forecasts, observe road traffic warning signs, and do not take risk on the road. Make sure that your camper has been supplied with chains, and that you have been shown , and you have practiced your self to fit and remove them. Doing it in the dry drive way of a camper park, doesn't represent the real world, as fingers get cold and water drops into your ears and eyes, but to have practiced, makes a. Miserable

job easier

Coaster,

Good point about the chains, there is nothing like trying to fit them on the highway between Cook and Tekapo with the wind buffering you and your van from side to side. We have beaten the fingers problem with fitting chains stop at the warehouse and get a cheap pair of rubber gardening gloves it makes the job a little easier.
