Arrive 3:00pm in feb, drive straight away?

Avidly reading forums, absolutely brilliant info.

We are arriving from Melbourne at 3:00 Sunday arvo mid feb, hiring a car. We want to stay in Christchurch at end of our 2 weeks rather than 1st night. Was planning to go over Arthur's first, but may do trip in reverse (we're doing a figure 8), so want to head to Tekapo for Sunday night.

Don't want to rush the trip at all, but that seems the best part to rush, if you have to rush any bit!

So, would leaving ChCh around 4:30-5:00 be OK, or silly?

Will take your wise advice!

I was having a similar problem with my itinerary- do we rush off or explore?

I found it worked itself out as when I was tring to book our over night stay on doutful sound I could use the extra days in christchurch at the start or end of my trip when I needed them to get the cruise on the right date.

Hope this helps! And have fun! :-)

from melbourne, jet lag isnt a big issue for you, the evings are long and warm in Feb.

It makes sence to get out of town as you head off on your adventure.

I would tend to advise not being to ambitious like Tekapo, but small rural towns like Geraldine or Arthur's pass would be far enough (between 1 and 2 hours driving)

It will be quiter compared to Jan when school holidays tend to fill all camps and accomodation.. mid Feb the weather is generaly settled

If Tekapo is your aim I would go no further but would stop halfway for a coffee and a stretch. Although you are only coming off a two hour flight the pre flight preparation and travel will start to catch up on you as the day goes on.

Of course! Arthur's Pass! Completely slipped my mind there was accommodation there. All is well again, back to the figure 8 heading west first.

That's exactly why I came to you, I knew you'd fix it! Thanks.
