that's good to know for my parents who will probably get sick of bread and potatoes after few days
Not only would you buy those products at supermarkets but at any corner dairy or food shop throughout the country.
In Christchurch there are also special Chinese grocery shops so you will be able to find more then just the basics if you want to.
You will find a wide range of food in all our supermarkets. Kiwi tend to eat food fromall over the place on a regular basis. Whilst common, bread and potatoes isn't really the staple it once was.
Thanks you guys! I am soooooooooooooooo looking forward!!!
I got them from supermarkets while there. They have kikoman sauce which is very useful for our type of cooking. Good jasmine rice is very expensive compared to what we pay in Singapore. I paid NZD4 plus for 500gm, at the 4square at Queenstown, that is 5 times what we normally pay at home. But then when the family crave rice, we have no choice :). Have fun!
The metropolitan supermarkets like CountDown or New World will be more competitive.
Dont start comparing costs with home or you will go crazy. Accept the costs whilst on holiday for what they are, pay the cashier and move on and have good time. If everything was the same as home there would be no need to go on an overseas holiday.
