Drive Time in Campervan from Dunedin to Mt. Cook Village

We are flummoxed. Neither Google Maps or the AA mapping site can find this route. It is as thought it does not exist! We want to camp at the DOC camp at White Horse which is very near Mt. Cook Village but have not idea how long it takes to drive since these map sites do not seem to think anyone can drive to Mt. Cook!

Thanks for your help!

In googlemaps, you want directions to "Mt Cook National Park, New Zealand"

In maps.aa.co.nz, you want "Mount Cook,Mount Cook, Mount Cook Village"

It will be a simple trip. From Dunedin head north on HW 1. Just past Oamaru you head west (left turn) from Pukuri and head up the Waitaki valley through Kurow to Omarama.

From Omarama you head North (chuck a right) and follow the signs.

I cant be certain about just how long it will take. It will be a lomgisg but gentle drive with lots of places for stops. Remember you will average 70kph in a motor home as there are lots of villages that lower the speed. This road is a favourite for traffic police.

That camping ground is a cracker. Park so that when you pull back the curtains you are looking straight at Aoraki.

As Dec says, it is eays to find on AAmaps. they give the drive as 4:32 hr. Consider the usual rule of adding 20% for a campervan. It is an easy drive for a campervan by NZ standards - no big hills!!

Googlemaps is weird - it can certainly find Mt Cook and Aoraki/Mt Cook, but won't calculate distances to or from there. But if you put in a well known landmark at Mt Cook, such as the Hermitage, the calculation works: taking the route Mike suggests is 317 km. Getting to Oamaru normally involves a stop at Moeraki Boulders so you can figure on 2 hours or so to get there, and then its about 200 km on easy roads - 2.5 hours if no stops.

I had no problem with Gogglemaps and entering Mount Cook National Park:
