Hi all, I'm considering a trip to South Island in the first 2 weeks of Dec with my kids aged 5, 10, and 12 then. Kids are good travelers but we've never really done a trip with long car rides, and hence my hesitation. I have been poring over the forums and a guidebook I have but am afraid to say i'm still very overwhelmed! I've narrowed down the must-sees for me:
1) Lake Tekapo star gazing
2) Franz Josef glacier walk/helicopter ride
3) Te Anau Glow Worms
5) Milford Sound
6) Mt Cook
We have to arrive and fly from Christchurch as the only direct flights from Singapore are to and from Christchurch. I would appreciate any ideas how to craft my itinerary? We have about 10-12 days in all, and my preference is not to change hotels more than 3-4 times, and not to have excruciatingly long car drives (say more than 3-4 hrs?) at one go. I hope I'm not asking too much, but where possible, we are open to the idea of short domestic flights / helicopter rides instead of longer bus/car journeys.
