Campervan in July

How cold is it likely to get? Too cold to go tramping or see tourist sites? Or enjoy hot springs? Not bothered by shorter daylight hours and am sure will be toasty in a campervan with the heater going, but I'm concerned it will be too cold to tolerate being outdoors for hours.

Depends where you are going, and weather could be cold with snow. Or can be brillant sunny clear winters days. Frost is common in most places in south island in winter. It could be rainy.

but with correct clothing its usually fine to do tramping, hot pools, outdoor activities.

Most days will be fine if you are properly dressed, but over a month you will probably get a few really stormy days when you don't want to go out.

Most areas of the South Island is a dry cold so if you are on the move outdoors you will be fine.

It is the long long nights in a campervan I would be concerned about. Having heat on in a tin can will get you running condensation - the walls and ceiling of the campervan will be dripping.

I live in the south.

July last year we had beautiful days for much of the month, but wicked frosts. So cold our farm pond froze enough to skate on.

This Winter was unseasonably mild .... So it's hard to say.

As previous person said the nights temp drops a lot.

Just remember to layer clothing!

If you are going to go tramping get proper advice before going. Ie the dept of conservation office (DOC) .... They have track conditions that are up to date . And be like a good Boy Scout and "be prepared" .

Are you keen on skiing? There will be ample opportunity to give this a whirl in both islands!
