August campervan tour

Wondering how much sight seeing will be limited by the weather in August? We are having about 7-8 days in North Island then 14-15 days around the South island. Many thanks

Love campervanning. Great way to travel. In Summer. August is our coldest month. Some short days and long nights. Icy roads, frosts and snow in places. Depending on your iternary will need snow chains.

You will have some very long evenings in the campervan - plus due to ice and possible snow on the roads you are advised to not drive before 10am - so you will be confined in one small tin can from about 5pm to 10am. Campervans are great in the summer months when it remains light till 9 or 10 pm and the sun rises at 5:30am.

You might want to consider a camper for the North Island and a car and motels for the lower temps and more rugged terrain of the South Island.

Best of luck :)
