We are two women in our 60's (fun loving and adventuresome) who have just 8 days to spend in South Island. Low budget/no desire for fancy accommodations or too much structure. Don't really like the tour bus approach. Will be arriving last week of September, flying into Christchurch and departing from Nelson.
On our bucket list: Milford Sound (can we do a short hike on the track this season): possibly Doubtful Sound, Queen Charlotte Sound and environs; Queenstown, Mt Cook/glaciers. We don't necessarily plan to spend much time in Christchurch. Our hiking will need to be moderate in nature.
What can we reasonably accomplish in this time frame? What is a "must see" and what should we avoid? What shall we expect weather-wise? What will driving conditions be like?
Any tips/advice will be most appreciated!
