christchurch airport hotels

We will be spending our last two nights in Christchurch and have a hired to return. We were planning to stay one night in city and the last night in a hotel near the airport as we have an early fight to Sydney. Could anyone suggest a reasonably priced hotel adjacent to airport or would we be better off staying in the city for the last two nights and take taxi to airport. We can drop our Apex rented car at the airport or to their city depot. Thanks.

From memory the Sudima is the only hotel actually at the airport so you'll need a taxi or shuttle from the Commodore or any of the motels in the Russley area. In that case I'd stay in the city as it (a) gives you more choice of accommodation; (b) gives more choice of places to eat for your last night. The airport is only 20 min from the city so it is not a big deal. Shuttle services can be booked and are very reliable.

Hi may suggestion is that you stay in central Christchurch where there is plenty of reasonably priced accommodation. It is only a 25min ride from the CBD to Christchurch airport

If you stay at Sudima or Comadore or scenic circle, they all offer free transfers to the airport.

Hi there,

We have stayed several times at the same motel about 2 mins from airport. A great place, a four Star AA motel, with a free shuttle to the airport and good solid concrete block construction to make it quiet between rooms. Very friendly staff, helpful and accomodating even working with us to organise a free pick up from airport after we returned rental car there the night before leaving. Straight down the road 5 mins driving takes you into Hagley Park and the centre of town. It is the 'Airport Gateway Motel' on the corner of Roydvale and Memorial Avenues. Try it.

I would say for the sake of saving about 15 minutes you may as well spend two nights in the same hotel in the city centre.

If you have an early morning flight and I assume you mean one of the ugly like 7am flights then it will take you a maximum of 15 minutes to get to the airport from the city. I can do it in 15 - 18 minutes during rush hour so at about 4.30m a cab will do it in no time at all.

May as well make the most of town as the airport hotels are boring and isolated.

Just book a reputable taxi with the front desk the night prior and enjoy your last night in the city.

If you use blue Star, Gold Band or Green cabs it should be around $20, certainly under than $30 from the CBD, It will be quieter in town, ChCH airport has planes all night. There are a few hotels on the Hagley park end of Memorial ave that will be 10 minutes in a taxi.
