Check out the suburb of Riccarton. Many motels around there.

Hi Sydney!

The Zhuhai writer is correct.

You'll find most Christchurch motels clustered in two areas: in Riccarton just west of the big park, known as Hagley Park; and along Bealey Avenue and Papanui Road on the north side of town.

There is a handful of downtown places too, but they'll likely be a bit more costly.

When we stayed at the Hagley Park Motel, it cost AUS$95/night. We regard it as a typical place and we saw several nearby competitors.

The Riccarton motels are about 8 kilometers from the airport, making them the closest of the Christchurch motel districts to the airport, and no further from the city center than any other except, of course, the hotels in the center city itself.

Happy travels,

David

Your budget should give you a choice of clean, comfortable motels in Riccarton Road. The lower numbers are closer to Hagley Park, and the pubs etc are about the centre. Just make sure you book ahead as they are popular with engineers/assessors and the like now that the hotels in the CBD are closed.

The other area to concider are Pananui Rd motels around Merivale. It's about the same distance from the airport, just in a slightly different direction.

The problem is that it's spread about a bit whereas befor the quake it was concentrated on the now closed Strip. I understand that the bar/music part of the Dux is now open in Lincoln Rd and there is another music venue that rages, the Brewery, in Garlands Road Woolston.

Personally I've only had an afternoon coffee there but the person I was with assured me it "fizzes" after dark.
