Accommodation away from the quake affected area?

Hi there,

Can someone recommend few accommodation options away from the quake affected area? Preferably close to the airport, probably around Riccarton area?

Any suggestion would be of great help:)

There are also some nice places in Papanui Rd in Merivale or in the airport area itself. The quake damaged places are in the CBD but that's being cleared up rapidly. They estimate 1/3 of buildings due to be demolished have been.

At the bottom (Moorhouse Ave) end it was, but my son lives up near the Edgeware Road end and his place was not damaged.

Thanks for all the info:) I found this place Thistle Guest House at Riccarton but can somebody tell me how convenient the location is? Is it an easy walk to the shopping mall, shops, cafes, supermarket, bus stop, etc? Or do you have any good recommendations around Riccarton area or anywhere not affected by the earthquake and not too far from the airport? Any suggestion would be of great help:)

This is a good location for convenience - within walking distance to everything that you need. The TA reviews give some good insight into the level of service from the hosts and location.

Why don't you contact the hosts through their website and ask questions directly? Then you can get a feel yourself depending on the content of the response and how quickly they get back to you.

Good Luck!

The CBD part of Barbadoes Street was hammered. Riccarton had a bunch of old double brick buildings removed following the September 10 quake, but was unscathed in February and June. All it's shops, bars and restaurants are open. It is one of the new centres replacing "The Strip". It is safe and well lit.
