Hotel on a Sunday night near restaurants

We have one night in Christchurch on a Sunday in July. We would appreciate some suggestions of where to stay which is within walking distance to an area with restaurants (that would be open). Also, for another night, what is the best hotel to stay in to catch a 0615 flight? Thank you in advance for any help.

As you've probably discovered, there are very few actual hotels still operating in Chch. However motels are plentiful & of good quality. What is your budget? I'd go for something in the Papanui Rd/Merivale area. Plenty of restaurants around Merivale Mall.

Out at the airport there is the Copthorne Commodore & the Sudima, plus 4 or 5 motels, mostly in the Roydvale Ave area - most have "airport" in their name if you search for them.

Quite a lot of reastaurants remain closed as the older buildings they were in are no longer there. Most high rise hotels are also closed. (Something like 655 of hotel beds are gone) . What style of food are you after? Pub? Fine? There are some excelent choices but they are not really grouped.

There are quite a good selection of eating places at the Christchurch airport itself. Though perhaps not top notch restaurant quality.

Christchurch dining options have become much more dispersed since the series of earthquakes. Riccarton Road (taxi trip away) probably has the greatest concentration of eating establishments. Followed by Colombo Street (further away from airport) and Papanui Road (more spread out)
