Travel at the End of May

We're wondering what the driving is like at the end of May there. Has winter fully set in?

We are planning on going to Queenstown, would we better off driving to Dunedin from there or flying? Better meaning if we flew would we be missing amazing stops and scenery? of if we drove would we be traveling on icy snowy roads (we live in the midwest US, so we're used to snow, but don't relish driving in it).

How about between Dunedin and CHC?

As you can see, I'm struggling to figure out some key components of our trip, so I could really use some help/advice.

Yep, post your itinerary so we can help maximise your trip.

I see little reason to go to Dunedin if just for one night and yes, the drive to Chch is not coastal but crosses flat farmland for mile after tedious mile.
