Hi,

I lived in Invercargill for 2 months 2 yrs ago. The property prices are certainly low, in the middle 20kNZD you can buy some nice houses. Invercargill is a really nice little town, although it's the southest city in the South Island, but it's not really colder than the other places (in the South Island).

If you want to visit there, then the neighbouring towns are more interesting (e.g. Bluff, Riverton), but it's definitely a nice place to live.

invercargill is quiet and nice. cold though, but if you are into hunting/fishing it is paradise. close to the catlins too which is the nicest place in nz by far...

You can checkout property online at www.open2view.com - but bear in mind this will only be a limited selection, as not everyone elects to spend the extra $$$'s to get on that site. The prices have gone up in recent years, especially since SIT (Southern Institute of Technology) started doing free degrees.

My experience was limited to one day there (for an interview for a job at the above) - was offered the job, but elected to stay in the North. It could have been the 70 knot southerly that made it seem cold and bleak. The people certainly are hospitable and their weather of late has been better than ours!

I like Invercargill, Since the SIT has free study there the town has blossomed. There is plenty of good shops, lots of nice places to go out for food, or for some socialising, it has a good airport (if you need to go on holiday) and is the entrance to Stewart Island and the Catlins - And it has its own accent! Its a little cold but harden up - I reckon Dunedin is about the same most days. The housing prices have skyrocketed since the students moved in.

Otatara is only about a 10 minute drive from Invers city centre. Its really nice and close to the beach. Its like living in the peaceful country but you are only a hop skip and jump from the centre of the city.
