"1871 State Highway 94, Fiordland National Park, (...)"

There's a building about 0.5 km of the Homer Tunnel entrance/exit .

The Google StreetView address is :

"1871 State Highway 94, Fiordland National Park, Southland, Nieuw-Zeeland"

Does anyone know :

- the name of the building (is it called/nicknamed 'the Chappel' ?) ?

- the use of the building ?

TIA

The first song that comes to my mind when I see 'the Chapel' , is Cream's "I feel free" :

"well I don't quite see the connection"

Visit 'The Chapel' with Google StreetView , look to the right , then to the left , and then remember Jack Bruce singing : "I can walk down the street, there's no one there (...)" ...

Being alone in a beautiful landscape , isn't that the ultimate experience of freedom ?

"(...) the stunning Milford Road"

I totally agree !

Milford Sound Highway is probably one of the most beautiful roads in the world !

The landscape along the Milford road is stunning, when you look at the depth of geological time that is displayed before you it is more amazing. Despite this there are many who visit the area only see and remember the sandflies.

I found this very nice picture of The Chapel in wintertime (original size : 'Large 1600 (1600 x 1071)' ) :

The Chapel and (literally !) tons and tons of snow , in the middle of July !

I really like that !

The Chapel is a snow-plough/grader garage. There is also a small bunk room & kitchen for workers who have to overnight at the tunnel. It's rarely occupied.
