Any quiet & Safe area/hotel during schoolies at GOLD COAST

We booked our trip to Gold Coast on 20 Nov - 3 Dec. and just realized these two weeks are SCHOOLEIES. Unfortunately we have our young kids with us for this trip and really need some quiet/safe place to stay for those two weeks. Already booked a hotel at SOUTHPORT and another one on Main Beach Parade (Surfer Paradise North). Will these two place OK to stay during those two weeks? We really shall looking for some areas like BIGGERS WATER or RUN AWAY BAYS. Where are all those Night Clubs and PARTIES will be hold? Thanks a lot.

We are also going to be in Surfers Paradise during schoolies! Unfortunately it will be our second time to be here during this timeframe, but we also didn't realise until we had booked our flights (and we were also restricted to dates due to work commitments etc).

As long as you stay AWAY from central Surfers Paradise you will be OK. We will be staying in a complex near the beach just off Cavill Avenue for 5 nights, but then going to Broadbeach for another 5 nights. Broadbeach will be a lot quieter than central Surfers.

By the way - if you are trying to get accommodation and it says there are no vacancies then contact the property directly. This happened to us when we tried to book our Broadbeach apartment, however they had blocked out schoolies dates to stop schoolies and/or their family booking for them during this time!

As chynna has said, if you stay away from Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise you should be OK. Is your accommodation refundable? If so I would suggest Burleigh Heads as a great family orientated place to stay. There are sufficient restaurants/coffee places as well as great beaches and no schoolies. One place I can recommend is La Pacifique Apartments located directly across the road from the main surf beach.

Hi,

The busiest week of schoolies is when the QLD kids flock to Surfers, between the 18th - 25th November. The following week is when the Interstate kids come to Surfers for their break up. The second week isn't as busy or crowded as the first week of schoolies. Usually it is quieter in the mornings and gets busier as the afternoon progresses.

Cheers,

Karen

Thank you all for your replies. Very helpfully. I had our hotel manager replied and confirmed their hotel will not accept any bookings for Schoolies during those two weeks. Not sure if we will still get any noise from Beach (North Surfers paradise) during the second week. still have a few days to decide if we shall cancel it and stay at somewhere. Southport seems fine and checked review and found it seems ok during that period. the last question. How theme parks and Shopping Mall looks like over second week of Schoolies. Wife is planning to go shopping alone during the day at Pacific fair and Harbour city. Don't want to leave her alone if there are too many Teens around. and Theme parks?

They might be at the theme parks but I doubt that schoolies go to the coast for shopping.

They will (from experience!) mostly be at the theme parks and other activities - we went on a jet boat ride and there were a couple of groups of teens on there. The driver had a great time doing lots of "twists" to make the teenage girls scream!!

As long as you are away from the centre of Surfers (Cavill Ave and beach vicinity) you will be OK.....

Just a warning for anyone who has been told that their complex won't accept schoolies bookings - when we stayed at the Chevron Renaissance on the visit that we had when schoolies were on - it was absolutely packed with teenagers! Other New Zealand families on holiday that we spoke to were very annoyed as they had been told by their travel agents that schoolies were not allowed to stay there (they get around this by having their parents make the bookings!).

It's going to be an interesting trip for us this year as my boys are now 20 and 18 - so will really be keen to see what is going on with the schoolies (although a lot of the places are "schoolies only" during this time!).

Hi ChrissyD80,

Just make sure that you get to the theme parks early & prepay for your tickets to avoid big line ups at the entrance.

Have a great holiday,

Karen
