Goldcoast for couples?

Hi everyone,

My fiance and I haven't been on holidays in a long while and have never been to the Gold Coast. We want to stay somewhere nice but we cannot afford more than $1500 for a week. We have heard Surfers is really busy and would prefer somewhere more casual and quiet aimed at couples rather than families as i am a primary school teacher and would love a break from lots of kids. Can anyone recommend a place to stay within 30 minutes of Surfers? We will have a car so can drive. There are so many options id really like someones opinion who has stayed there! Thanks!! :0)

Hi bekky

The list is endless!

What time of year are you coming?

Apartment or Hotel?

I would suggest Broadbeach for a couple that has never been to the Gold Coast. Still plenty of stuff going on, but not over the top crazy like Surfers can be at times. Only 5 minutes away if you want to go in there anyway.

I guess you would only want a 1 bedroom apartment - so that counts out some good places like Aria, Ultra and Verve.

Check out :

http://www.oceanpacificresort.com.au/

They are having plenty of opening specials at the moment and only offer 1 bedroom apartments. (So few kids)

A week there might only cost you less than $1000.

Save some money for dinners out!

See what you think.

Totally agree with B/B try Broadbeach or Coolangatta.

Another suggestion depending on your budget is the new Salt development at Kingscliff which would be perfect if you have a car.

Hi bekky,

there are many places you could stay on the Gold Coast.

Are you interested in an apartment or hotel?

As others have said, Broadbeach is definitely the best place for a couple to stay. It is only about 5-10min drive from Surfers.

The town is divided by the Gold Coast boulevard. On one side is the beach. This is where most of the hotels and apartments are. On the other side is the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Conrad Jupiters Casino and Entertainment centre, and Pacific Fair shopping centre.

The best hotels in the Broadbeach area are probably Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise (isn't really in Surfers, kind of in between. It is a good location because of its proximity to both areas), Sofitel and Conrad Jupiters. With apartments, you could stay at one of the BreakFree places, Mantra. There is a new apartment block coming up, I think its the Meriton, you may want to check if it will be open when you are in the area. There is also a new apartment building with wavy balconies. MAYBE SOMEONE ON TRIPADVISOR CAN REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT?

With $1500, you could stay at the Crowne Plaza and get away with quite a bit of change. I think that the rate is about $170/night. The Sofitel is a little more expensive, and the Conrad is about $200-$300 if i remember correctly. Apartments are generally a little more expensive.

The dining options are endless and vary greatly in price, so staying at a hotel could prove to be just as cheap as an apartment and the service is a lot better of course.

So all in all, Broadbeach would be a great location to stay. You could also consider Southport, but Broadbeach is probably more interesting for a couple.

Please post any other questions you may have.

Some good info from Daman above.

* The Meriton Broadbeach is the new apartment building mentioned by Daman, and has some great opening specials of $99 per night for a mystery room.

* The wavy building is called "The Wave Resort" and is great. Only thing is the 1 bedroom apartments are low floor.

* In my experience, Apartments are generally a little less expensive than Conrad Jupiters and Sofitel. Both of which are 5 star hotels.

* Southport is ok, but not near the beach.

Yep, beach8um is correct in saying that Southport is not as close to the beach. Broadbeach is definitely your #1 choice for staying at the coast. (BTW Beach8um, thx for posting the name of the Wave place. I thought that it started with an 'O', but i must have got mixed up with one of the other places)

That $99 deal at the Meriton sounds pretty sweet. As a couple, it wouldn't really matter how big your room is. I would definitely book it if you are ready.

Yes, staying at an apartment would definitely be cheaper than Jupiters or Sofitel, but I think that the Crowne Plaza should be a little cheaper than these two and may even be comparable. Once again, best to do a bit of research before making the big decision.

Hi, thanks! I had heard alot about Broadbeach on these threads but it looked like the majority of them were for families! Like Ultra and Verve. I will definately try the 1 bedroom apartments at Ocean Pacific and $99 at the Meriton!!!! thats fantastic!!!!!! I automatically discounted staying in hotels because i wanted to have a kitchen so i could cook but i didnt really consider the price difference between booking a hotel and eating out and booking an apartment!!! I will have a better look at prices again. Thanks!

Also, i found an apartment this afternoon in 'Burleigh' it looks really close to the beach and is only about $1000 for the week in April when i am looking to go. This is the website

Has anyone stayed there?

Hi BB,

When are you coming??

You can book the Meriton through www.wotif.com.au/ also.

Bear in mind that the Meriton is so cheap because there is still construction going on around the grounds.

The apartment you mention on stayz is right across the road from the beach. Great spot. Older Building. No Pool.

Hi Beachb8m,

ok, construction is not so good. Ive had that experience before and it was not so good! thanks for the heads up.

Im not so worried about the pool cos there is the beach just there!! :0) And we are not fussy about the building, just as long as the rooms are nice.

We are thinking of coming in the April School holidays around the 20th April.

Cool,

Just a couple of things to bear in mind:

* That location in Burleigh does not have many bars/restaurants within walking distance.

You will have to use public transport or hire a vehicle to get to the main tourist attractions around Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

* You are paying extra for a 2 bedroom apartment you don't really need.

* The construction involving the Meriton will be well and truly finished in the coming weeks so that won't be a problem. The price will go up however.

Check out the link below for some ideas on what to do around town:
