Surfers, Brisbane or somewhere else?

We are driving our way up from Sydney and will have stayed the previous night in Byron bay, Should we have a night in Surfers Paradise or head straight to Brisbane where we're also staying for 2 nights already.

Its a Saturday night so not sure how wild SP will be for our tastes. We're not really clubbers but do like a drink but is there somewhere else we'd be better off going to? I'd looked at Moreton but have ruled that out.

Thanks

The Gold Coast is only a 1 - 1.5 hr drive from Byron Bay but IMO it is worth having a look around. Whether or not you can be bothered staying overnight is up to you ... its only another hour on to Brisbane.

Broadbeach could be a better option as there are plenty of bars and restaurants ... probably best to stay away from Surfers Paradise (late) on a Saturday night - its becomes a bit of a zoo!

The Gold Coast is one of the most popular tourist areas in Australia for a reason. To "skip" it would be silly.

How old are you? Whats your budget? When are you coming?

If it were me, I would book a room at Peppers Broadbeach or Jupiters Casino and have a look around. Its a beautiful place.

Thanks for that. I think we will visit during the day and head further north for the night. Could you suggest anything between there and South Brisbane. The reason i ask that is that we are planning to go to the Lone Pine Sanctuary the following morning before dropping off our hire car.

Not bothered if its just a 'motel' type but somewhere inland might be nice. I'm relying on Lonely planet here but would anyone recommend Tamborine Mountains or similar.

Hi. Sorry seemed to miss a reply while i was writing a message. We're early 30s and its for 1 night on the 19th December. The 2 hotels mentioned are a bit beyond our price range but there are others i've looked at that would be okay arounf the $150 per night mark. VibeHotel and Watermark seem okay for the price though its still over £100 for us..
