1st time GC trip for a couple-surfers paradise vs mainbeach

Hi all,

We are planning to go GC for the first time for 3 nights during June long weekend. We would like to get a decent hotel deal and enjoy the food, seaworld, dream world and the beach.

I am really confused on where to stay and also do we also need to rent a car to go to dream world plus sea world etc or is it all walkable distances. Can someone please help us ?

The hotels you've listed are all located in either Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, which is the suburb before Surfers Paradise (and Main Beach is the suburb after SP). In terms of touristy things, nightclubs, later opening hours for shops, etc., SP would be at the centre. Broadbeach has a nicer feel (more family friendly) with some good restaurants, etc. It really depends on what kind of experience you're wanting.

Having said that, in June, I've found SP to be quiet, which is actually something I prefer, as you avoid all the rowdy crowds who come in Summer.

If you were to stay in Broadbeach, my pick is the Meriton Broadbeach for sure (even over other places in Broadbeach that you haven't listed). If you were to stay in SP, my pick is the QT Hotel (but only because I like it's style, and check out Bazaar, the buffet restaurant there). However, there is a big hike in prices between QT and others, I realise. Vibe Hotel is in a good location (right next to the main bus stop in SP), but don't expect anything fancy. The same applies to the Hotel Grand Chancellor - good location, probably not so great hotel (although, I'd stay at the Vibe over the HGC).

Best thing to do is read the reviews because they give you a wide variety of opinions, which will help you make your decision as to which way to go.

Everything is spaced out on the Gold Coast, so, there's definitely no way you can walk from SP or Broadbeach to Movieworld or anything like that. Your options are to take the public bus (easy to do) or hire a car. Hiring a car has its flexibility, but, if you're not comfortable driving, then, taking the bus shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Hi,

Moving from north to south from the Gold Coast Sea Way you have Surfers Paradise Beach, Broad Beach and Mermaid Beach. They are contiguous and mapping conveniences for a long strip of beach.

Like the others have said it is too far to walk from the coastal strip to the theme parks with the possible exception of Sea World if you are "good walkers". You shuld be able to get a good deal on accommodation given the state of the touris industry on the coast.

Surfers Paradise is very, very touristy. Broad Beach is slightly less so and Mermaid Beach slightly less again.

Cheers,

Thanks a lot. I saw the QT hotel and I can't seem to find out why it's cheap and number one. It doesn't even have a good view of the ocean. Can someone elaborate it more ?

There are few more questions if someone can help me:

1) The dream world, movie world etc are far at least not walkable from broadbeach or SF (Vibe hotel). Is that correct ?

2) How good are the bus transportation from Vibe hotel to the airport .. Vibe hotel to the theme parks? Same goes for meriton apartments. I am debating if I should rent a small car or not to travel between those places.

3) the QT bazaar and restaurent is it inside the hotel or the bazaar means night restaurents ?

We are not clubbing type of couple but wanting nice view and spend lazy time with water activities or drink some good cocktails. Any recommendations or tips ?

The theme parks are at least 15 if not 20 mins drive from the Coast. You will need a car or catch public transport. Someone will be able to advise which bus etc.

I stayed at Vibe while I had some renovating done in my house so couldn't go home. It wasn't so bad. Some rooms have views, but others dont. Its not right on the ocean but on the highway. Great bus stop right by it though and theme park tickets at a little booth a little ways down the road. Sometimes the prices for the hotels are just as cheap when you try the hotel itself. Have you tried the Hilton website. Great views, and in the middle of Surfers. Watermark is a little painful to get to and Grand Chancellor is a great location but dated. Depends on what you like. Main Beach has good restaurants. Try Shuck for a beautiful night out. Surprisingly for most, there are very few restaurants with sea views - so go to a surf club for breakfast. Great views, heart breakie. Surfers and Mainy are within spitting distance. No one on the Goldy takes public transport. Hire a car, save yourself the headache.

Ok guys .. the flights are all booked that means now we gotta find 1) Hotel 2) Car rental

For Hotel/Accomodation:

I would prefer a room with a balcony and heated pool as we will be going in June so it will be freezing cold.

With out budget we are more and more looking into Vibe Hotel. 1) Can someone tell us their experience with the pool ?

2)Is there lots of restaurents around to eat something good and cheap ?

3) Can you walk to the beach ? If yes, how far is it normally ? I saw it's 10 mins in google maps but can't trust it as it varies a lot in my own experience.

How many are travelling with you? Out of your list I would probably just go with the Meriton. Indoor heated pool and added benefit of being self-contained.

Ok with Meriton one prob is you have no late night activities .... You can't walk around late night. But I hear SP is always live and entertaining at night. We are not clubbing sort of people but enjoy the nice small food stalls.

We will be renting a car but don't want to drive down to SF or drive at night.

I haven't been there so someone needs to confirm the truth to the broad beach area and Meriton.

P.s. only two people including myself going to GC

Hi,

I would stay in the Broadbeach area, it is not as tacky/touristy as Surfers Paradise. I have stayed at the Freshwater Point Resort which was really quiet due to it being on the river and the opposite side of the Gold Coast Hwy to the beach and main Broadbeach strip. You can cook your own meals here etc if you like, or walking distance to the main st in Broadbeach for restaurants etc. The beach and main st were 5 minutes walk away. It was also an easy walk to the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and the Casino. Or local buses go through this area. The only problem with the Resort was the pool is quite small. But not sure how much you will swim in June anyway?

All buses to the theme parks run along the Gold Coast Hwy, and are easy to use.

Have a great trip.
