5days Gold Coast Itiernary

Hi Guys!

The husband and I are travelling to Gold Coast/Brisbane from 30 October - 4 November '13. I've done some research and would love to get inputs and feedbacks from you guys about my itinerary.

30 Oct (Wed)

Touch down in Gold Coast Airport in the morning.

Spend the day on Surfers Paradise/ Beachfront Markets & maybe Jupiters.

31 Oct (Thurs)

A day in Movie World & spend the evening in the Fright Night, return by Gold Coast Shuttle.

**I came across a couple poor reviews about the Fright Night and I do understand Australia doesn't celebrate Halloween but just wondering if there other places where I can go to sink into a little Halloween mood? Not the 'trick or treat with kids but maybe just some costume parties.

1 Nov (Fri)

Travel to Brisbane, shop at Queen's Street Mall.

**What else should I look out for other than the Southbanks & the Mall?

2 Nov (Sat)

Moreton Island Eco Trip with Moreton Island Adventures. After arriving in Brisbane, travel back to Surfers Paradise & check-in hotel.

**Are there any highly recommended restaurants in Brisbane or Surfer Paradise to celebrate my birthday? Need not be classy or expensive, but maybe somewhere unusual? :)

3 Nov (Sun)

Spend the day in Surfer's Paradise.

**Any accessible(by public transport) National Parks/ places I can spend the day in?

4 Nov (Mon)

Depart for morning flight.

Also, I'm wondering if it is more convenient to travel directly to Brisbane after I touch down at Gold Coast on the first day (30 Oct), then travel to Movie World (31 Oct) & Moreton Island (1 Nov) from there then come back to Gold Coast on 1 Nov evening?

Or even, if I should just make Surfers Paradise as my 'base' and do Brisbane as day trip, then look for a tour operator that travels to Moreton Island from Gold Coast ?

Do advise if any of the routes or days are too busy?

Many Thanks!

I would recommend just staying around at Surfers or Broadbeach. don't bother travelling to Brisbane, an unnecessary expense, plenty of great shopping in Gold Coast. - Harbour Town, Robina or Pacific Fair.

What's the attraction you are wanting to do on Moreton? again not much there and very expensive.

maybe catch the last of the whales by going on a whale watching cruise?

honestly 5days is not long and I would be just relaxing and taking in what the Gold Coast has to offer. maybe hire a car and drive around to get easier.

Hi,

I did the Fright Night last year & had a fantastic time. My advice is to get there early as the traffic from the freeway was gridlocked with cars trying to get into the car park. If you are spending the day there, you may have to exit at the closing time & pay to re-enter again. It is great atmosphere with heaps of people dressing up for the occasion.

Regards,

Karen

Thanks coxie & Karen.

Coxie: ok, shall re-look at my trip to Brisbane. I'm thinking of going to Moreton more for the activities and to relax, plus catch a glimpse of the shipwrecks. In fact, I read up from the Moreton Adventures that their Micat ferry might be able to see the whales in action. Thus, I'm not sure I should prebook another whale watching tour. We won't be driving hence, prefer to visit places where public transportation have access to.

Karen: I'm looking forward to book the VIP pass that has entries to dream world, sea world, wet n wild plus the fright night. I'm thinking of spending one entire day at movie world then re-enter again for the fight night. Then probably spend another day at sea world. But might give a miss on wet n wild.

Another question, do I still need to look into the Go card if I were to buy the Gold Coast Tourist shuttle?

I noticed the mixed reviews about the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle. Just thinking, what are the ways can I get back to Surfers Paradise should I not purchase the shuttle pass after Movie world Fright Night? I believe the buses services are off by the time Dright Night has ended?

Can I use the passes as a go card on the surveyed buses i.e. the public buses?

beckyliss, I sent a Facebook message to staff via the Movieworld profile page, and this is their response regarding transport after Fright Night:

"We have chartered a couple of buses which are free of charge to Fright Nights guests, however they work on a first in best dressed system. When you arrive at Fright Nights, if you head to Guest Services, located on the left hand side of Main St, they will tell you what time the bus is arriving and leaving so that you can make sure you are there on time. The bus will go to Helensvale station and on to Surfers. Hope that helps"

No need to purchase the passes, unless you really want theme park transfers. Otherwise, the Go Card is easy to use on its own with catching public buses.

"First in best dressed" means you just have to arrive early to get a seat. Doesn't mean you have to be dressed up to get on the bus. Hope that helps. Have a great holiday.

Yeah i'd skip the shopping in Brisbane and just shop at the Gold Coast. I've heard good reviews about Moreton Island. It is really beautiful. I spend 3 days per week on North Stradbroke island which is just devine so that might be another option. You might just be lucky enough to see the last of the whales going past, there is still alot at the moment but they will be finishing up soon.

Just noted your comment about the VIP Pass. PLEASE note that the VIP Pass DOES NOT include unlimited entry to DREAMWORLD (which is owned by a different company). The VIP Pass only allows unlimited entry to MOVIEWORLD, Seaworld, and Wet 'n' Wild.

Thanks all! I've re-adjusted my itinerary with the helpful comments.

30 Oct - Touch down and take bus 702 to Watermark Hotel.

Visit Seaworld & SP Night Market

31 Oct- Bus TX2 to Movie World, followed by Fright Night.

1 Nov- Moreton Island Day tour.

Back to SP for Night Market again or Jupiters Casino.

2 Nov- *Take bus 750 and walk to Palazzo Versace to check-in.

*Whale Watch?

Walk & chill out at Marina Mirage Shopping Centre.

3 Nov- Check-out from Palazzo Versace, go back to SP. Shop around Carrara Market, hang out in Pacific Fair then Robina Town.

I understand that there are no public transport that goes to Palazzo Versace, but does Bus 750 travels near to the hotel? We'll be bringing along 1 luggage so we hope its not too far to walk to the hotel from the bus stop?

Also, is the tax refund at the airport a hassle? Just in case I spend more in some of the shops. As will be taking morning flight back on 4 Nov around 9am.

Thanks all!
