It really depends how fll you want your day to be and what your interests are.

The shortest route is 2.5 hours up the Midland Highway, via the historic convict era towns of Otlands, Ross, Campbell Town, Perth and Longford.

You could detaour via Bothwell and the Highland Lakes Road. It takes you over the Central Plateau and down the spectacular escarpment at Poatina. Or you could go a little further along the Central Plateau past teh Great Lake and to Launceston via Deloraine. This would take about 3 to 3.5 hours.

The third route would take you up the east coast perhaps as far as Freycinet, then inland via St Mary's and Fingal to join the Midland Highway near Campbelltown. Again, there are slight variations on this route. but it would take about 5 hours driving.

The east coast is the pick of them, but try to change yr plan so you've a night to break the journey. The roads except the midland highway are all tiring to drive as they're so windy. The options mentioned above warrant more research by yourselves as it depends on yr interests. East coast the MOST scenic. Vinyards on that route too. You'd have to take detour off it to see friendly beaches and Coles Bay.

East Coast Route. Take the Lake Leake Road to/from Campbell Town.

Simone, I believe the best way is via the midlands, through the historic towns Luigi mentions. It will be more relaxed, the towns have great shops and historic sights to see, and nice little cafe/restaurants to have lunch. There's also Evandale near the airport lovely little town.

If you get to Launceston earlier enough you could fit in the Cataract Gorge, and some more of Launceston depending on your time schedule.

Safe travels - Robert
