Onstreet parking near Mercure hotel

We're booked into stay at the Mercure next month before we go tackle the GOR but the onsite parking is a bit steep ($18) and from looking at Google Earth, there seems plenty of street parking round about it. Just wondering if it would be safe to leave the car on the street instead of the hotel car park and roughly how much would it cost for onstreet parking? We're not likely to get to the hotel before 8pm at the very earliest (flying in from NZ) and want to be away by 9am at the latest to start travelling the GOR.

Thanks :)

I live in Geelong and would feel quite safe parking my car in the street near the Mercure, either opposite in Gherinhap Street, between Myers and Little Myers Streets, or just around the corner in Little Myers Street (west of Gherinhap) where there a few homes. Another option would be to park further south in Gheringhap Street, over McKillop Street in front of the homes there - would be about a 2-3 minute walk to hotel. You'd probably really be ok parking in any of the many other parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the hotel but these would be my preferences. l certainly wouldn't pay $18 - I agree it's exhorbitant.

Most street parking spaces in the city are metered and you only have to pay between either 8a or 8.30a and 5.30p on week days and Saturdays. Sunday is free I think the ones opposite the hotel in Gheringhap Street are metered, but from memory, the others I mentioned, may just have a one or two hour limit. I'll check next time I'm in the city and let you know. In any event if you have to pay at a meter for an hour or so before you leave in the morning, the cost would probably only be about $2 an hour

I hope this helps
