Geraldton is a small city in the country. About five hours or so drive north from the state capital, Perth. On the coast, lots of beaches and fresh crayfish in season. Reasonably quiet, has some good restaurants, state schools and private schools, most amenities you can think of, within cooee of some interesting tourist towns etc, you could do a LOT worse. Depends on what you're looking for.

Here's a link to the Geralton Tourist Bureau website:

and one to the more general WA tourism website:

Oh, and February will be high summer, so bring light clothing, hats and lots of sunscreen! I recommend not organising accommodation until you arrive, to check out the area you want to live in and make sure it is convenient/accessible to your work, preferred schools etc.

Too many foreign immigrants come unstuck by renting sight unseen, coming and finding there's no way to get to work/school/the shops/doctor/etc using the public transport they had hoped to use or conveniently by car, decide they hate Australia, pack up and leave, telling all their friends how awful Australia is. Totally avoidable.

Have lived in Geraldton for 22 years and leaving soon because kids are leaving the nest and want to be closer to aging parents.

A great place to bring up kids. Lots of sport (even soccer), great beaches, fantastic swimming pool. A small city that feels like a country town. geraldton is on the start of a boom so make sure your employer offers you accommodation because it is getting harder to find and expensive.

You will find February hot so make sure you are prepared. You wont need cold weather clothes until about May so leave them behind and buy here because what you think is warm is what we think is cold. Winters get chilly at night but days are beautiful.

The things that will put you off- the bloody wind!! summer heat and humidity

but the pluses far outweigh the minuses.

Steer clear of accommodation in Rangeway, Karloo, Utakarra, Spalding

Good luck. Look me up if you shift!
