What to do in Western Australia during Summer (Feb 2014)?

Initially plan for visit 2 weeks ago yet gonna cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

So we postpone the plan to February yet I wonder if it'll be too hot in weather and what we can do? Or any recommendations on best time to visit?

Need advice on planning our itinerary.

We have 6 adults (4 about the age of 60), 1 4yo then boy and a 1yo baby girl...

Thanks in advance

IMO February and March are the hottest months, depends on whether you like hot or not. Time in the sun should be limited for the kiddies, with lavish use of sunscreen, hats and clothing covering most of the body.

South of Perth it's a little cooler.

Have a look at the trip reports to the right of the screen and also the WA Tourism website:

westernaustralia.com/au/Pages/Welcome_to_Wes…

to see what appeals to you. It's hard to make recommendations without knowing your preferences and budget. There are links on the page to the regional tourism websites as well.

I'm assuming you plan to rent a vehicle and self-drive. You will also need to rent an infant seat for your daughter and possibly a second infant seat (depending on his size) or a booster seat for your son. You cannot bring your own from home.

Hi the south west Busselton/Margaret River is usually 10oC less than Perth in Feb.

Busselton has some great family orientated places for extended families, resort style like Geographe Bay Resort right on the beach, Mandalay Caravan Park with camping to beautiful villas just a short walk across a non through road to the beach.

A range of farmstays in the region with self contained chalets some with spas some without. One has a strong focus on australian wildlife, right in the centre of the margaret river region & has plenty of reviews here on tripadvisor - Yelverton Brook.

Augusta is even cooler than Margaret River & very beautiful, a smaller township with the Blackwood River, cruise boats travel up the river, beaches, Flinders Bay is lovely, you can see Stingrays usually in the morning being hand feed at the beach. Just south of Margaret River is Amaze a true green living hedge maze grown for 17yrs before opening. Plus lots of fab foods to enjoy from little beach cafes, simple fish & chips to gourmet fine dining....something for everyone!

Margaret River region has beautiful beaches, a variety of accommodation, lots of wineries, restaurants, children's attractions (chocolate factory, maze, ice creamery, berry farm, cheese factory, hobby farms etc), walking tracks through the forrest, art galleries etc. And it does tend to be cooler.

Rottnest Island is also beautiful in summer. Lovely beaches. Hire bikes and go for a ride to the Basin for some snorkelling. Have lunch outside at the pub overlooking Thompsons Bay. See quoka's (like tiny wallabies) that inhabit the island.

And get up to the war memorial at Kings Park in Perth for a picnic with an amazing view!
