Christchurch to Kaikoura

In New Zealand for the honeymoon in November and will be arriving in Christchurch via the Akaroa shuttle at 12noon on a Sunday. That night we are staying in Kaikoura and would like to find out what some kind folks think would be the best way to get there. Any better options besides the Intercity bus that leaves Christchurch at 4pm and arrives in Kaikoura at 6:30pm? I want to be clear that we have nothing against buses but figured it was worth finding out if there are better options. Last thing we don't want to rent a car. Cheers.

Sorry, but a shuttle or coach is the only way to get from Christchurch to Kaikoura if you do not wish to hire a car. There is a train but that departs Christchurch at 7am each morning.

Interesting link,

Apologies for the facetious answers but surely, before going half way across the world you check how you are getting to Kaikoura before booking accomodation (as is implied)

The drive to Kaikoura is very beautiful, and the town itself set in a glorious setting between the sea and the mountains.

I would suggest driving, but not if you are uncomfortable with it (I drove in Kansas City, aged 10 years in a weekend)

As you can see we speak a real pure version of English in this part of the world. It is one of the few places that takes language seriously and speak it properly. Just to help you understand we have a drawl and mumble quite a lot. Australians usually come up to speed quite quickly but North Americans can take quite a while.
