4 hours to kill in Hervey Bay

My 18 year old son is backpacking up the east coast of Australia at the moment. Tomorrow he is going by Greyhound from Rainbow Beach to Airlie Beach via Hervey Bay where he has a 4 hours layover. He arrives in Hervey Bay at 5.30pm; he would like to leave his luggage in a safe place then do something to pass the time. Any suggestions? Maybe somewhere to have dinner etc. Thanks

There are coin-op lockers at the transit station where the bus stops. All the fast-food and takeaway restaurants are within 100m of the bus station and the Hervey Bay Tavern is right in front of the terminal, which would be the best place that is close for a beer and a meal.

As the sun is setting quite early now, there is not much to see "in the dark", and as Hervey Bay is a long town spread over 18km, there is not much within walking distance.

As mentioned the trouble with HB is everything is pretty much spread out so having no car limits the experience of HB. Basically he will be able to stroll along the foreshore & have a look around before his dinner.

I also agree with Emeraldene the Hervey Bay tavern is the best option for a meal & its okay too.
