I am heading down to the Riu and will be there the end of Feb. I was told that coco beach is the closest beach with decent surf for boogie boarding. Supposedly there is great boarding waves around, but the Riu is secluded and a ways away from most everything.

they offer the boards but there are no waves.

Tamarindo beach...nice for any surfing and boggie board...Playa Grande...also great that at both places still good chances to see some wild life...!
