2wd 3 days 2 nights in Kakadu

Hi all,

We are visiting Kakadu this Friday(Mar 29) and hiring a 2wd. I realize it's the rainy season and we won't be able to go to a lot of sights. Hoping you can suggest what's the best thing to do with a 2wd and in this season. Is Gunlom Falls accessible by a 2wd?

Thank you so much.

Neha

See parksaustralia.gov.au/kakadu/plan-your-trip/… for the latest reports on what is open. Most sites are accessible by a 2WD car.

The above link has a lot of information about touring Kakadu and what to do.

Thank you for the link, I shall check it out.

Yes I do like walking and I'm staying 2 nights near Aurora Kakadu.

Check with your car hire company as many (most?) won't let you take a 2WD on a gravel road. Gunlom is gravel (and may well not be open yet).

If you can take the car on gravel two great spots at this time of year are Gubara Pools and Motorcar Falls (Yirmikmik Walks). Both are a reasonable walk in but gorgeous and you can swim when you get there (but do take note if there are signs saying not too). They stop flowing later in the year so are at there best right now.

Ubirr is a do not miss in my opinion - as long as the road is open (sealed road but gets cut by the Magela Creek in the wet).

The Nungulawurr Walk is also good at this time of year - interesting rock art.

Enjoy
