Kununurra in December

We are wanting to visit Kununurra - would be flying in on Xmas Day this year. Apart from it being very hot is there anything else we should know. Is it hotter than Broome. We were in Broome last Christmas and survived the heat well enough. Can we still get around and do tours etc. We could in Broome apart from the Intombe cruise. Would appreciate any feedback.

Temps will be higher than Broome and more humid.

What do you want to do in Kumurrura in December ? Places like El Questro are shut due to rain, and parts of GRR will potentially be closed.

There are some things to do- even Lake Argyle for maybe a few days- but unless you fish up in the gorge etc Its kind of the wrong time to be a tourist there...

I agree with hamiriver, in that it's not really the time of year to be a tourist in Kununurra, but I have attached a couple of links for you - weather statistics for 2013 and a link to the visitor centre, where they will be able to provide you with any information on what is happening in the area in December.

A lot hotter in Kununurra then Broome. Think 5 degrees + as a minimum. Most tours will be shut over the wet season and those that aren't would more then likely be closed over the Christmas / NY period.

If you are lucky and we have an early wet season then the country will come alive with new growth, creeks and rivers, and with unimaginable evening storms and lightning shows. Locals love the Wet Season and it is a shame that we have few visitors at this time of year. Many local waterholes can still be accessed, and scenic flights are available. You will need a 4WD and some safety/recovery equipment if venturing off the bitumen. Locals are very happy to help and advise.

We actually lived in Kununurra for two years and the one season we loved the most was the Wet Season. IF you can get there and experience the build up, the storms and the magnificent clouds, thunderous rains you would not be sorry. There would be some people that would happily take you out to see the water falls, the rivers and many other sights - sure it is quiet tourist wise but we would consider that is actually a plus. There are active tours still going - on the Lake for instance. The restaurants are still open, the shops too. As are the hotels. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. And do go to my all time favourite shop for a gem or two, Kimberley Fine Diamonds. They take lay by and sell loose diamonds too.

For something a little different, look up Boab Trike Tours when you get there, depending on the weather, it's a terrific experience.
