FNQ in January

We are looking for a quick 5 day getaway in the first week of January 2011 and have a lovely hotel picked out in Palm Cove. I'm a bit wary of the weather at that time of year though. Any help with what we can expect (usually) if we are there in January 2011?

The monsoonal lows are around between January and March. There can be nice weather but there is risk of very heavy rainfall. Better than end February and March overall but there is high chance of rain. Go see the waterfalls and go swimming in the rockpools. very nice.

Thanks for your response. I think we might leave it til a better time of year and go somewhere else in January.

Hi there

It does not necessarily rain all day and if it does its nice and warm and refreshing. Rain usually occurs at night at this time of year. Its the peak time to see all that north QLD offers at this time have a look at this cairnsaccommodation.com/content/cairns-weath…

This site explains the seasons quite well

Peak season in Cairns is June onwards but you certainly pay a lot more for airfares and accommodation then too

Happy travels
