Third time here and still plenty of mist!

This is our third visit to Katoomba and once again a lot of mist and not a lot of viewing! Still well worth the visit and a quick peek thru the mist for a minute or two! Very cold and glad we had purchased extra jacket to keep us warm. Great walk around various trails. Very popular place with tourists of all nations. Great warm up soup in the cafe in the small shopping centre by the lookout. It was great tasting and if mist had cleared long enough there would have been a great veiw from our seat.

He He!

Back in the fifties and sixties when we had a holiday house at Leura my mum used to say a clear day in Katoomba was when you could see from one side of Katoomba St to the other :-)

Cheers,

Haha I guess it's not unusual for the misty days then!

I understand your frustration. Several years ago I took some relatives visiting from overseas to Katoomba. At Echo Point you could not see the visitor centre from the other side of the plaza. Driving along Katoomba St was travelling blind.

Sadly, that is the Blue Mountains & you have to take it as you find it.

Go in summer. It's so much nicer and less mist :-)

Yet yesterday (Friday) and today it is just like a Spring day - pleasant temperatures, beautiful clear skies and majestic views. People are walking around in their warm woollen jackets or leather coats, the coffee shops are doing a roaring trade and many have fire places blazing.

Sorry to create an argument Aynat62, but in summer there is still plenty of mist - it is all a function of warm, humid air blowing off the ocean and hitting the naturally colder air of the Mountains.

But walk to the cascades in the mist and enjoy the ethereal effect as the mist wafts through the trees and ferns .....

The unusual characters in the link (#!) mean that the TA system does not recognise it as a URL. You need to use www.tinyurl.com

John is correct. I was there in February with my relatives and it was all mist. It can happy anytime when there is no wind.
