Bus or Train down to Barcelona

My wife and I are meeting up with friends in Barcelona whilst staying in Roses. Anyone taken the bus or train down and back and any thoughts? We are staying over night and have been in barcelona many times and know the city well.

There are two trains, the Renfe, which takes over two hours from Barcelona Sants to Figueres, and a second one (I don't know the name yet) that is the fast train. The fast train is less than an hour. From Figueres Renfe station, simply walk down the stairs and back up the other side to catch the bus to Roses. Once you're in Roses there are smaller local buses hourly that can take you to other areas.

The high-speed train, AVE, leaves from a station Figueres Vilafant which is outside Figueres town proper . …wikipedia.org/wiki/Figueres-Vilafant_railwa…

The AVE will be quite a bit dearer than the Renfe train

You also have to book in advance as these trains are busy, a single ticket to Barcelona was quoted at 44 euro per person Figueres Vilafant is hell to find and damned expensive to park at. We went from Figueres, it was 12 euro and two hours down and 16 euros and 1.5 hours back with a further 12 euros parking right at the platform.. (Remember to keep you return train tickets to get the cheaper parking rate). Avoid the AVE, a rip off to save 30 minutes?
