Cape Air

Is anyone familar with this airline. We are looking at flying into San Juan in December and the flight is now $580.00, but to fly directly to BQN is $1489.00 out of Chicago. We would like to stay in the Rincon area with a good swimming beach. There are 8 adults and 2 babies. I seen where we could fly from San Juan to Mayaguez for around $60.00. Is there a car rental agency there or would we cab it to Rincon and rent a car there? Still in the planning stages and need help.

Here's a few options.... Cape Air is wonderful, many of the locals use it as a means of commuting to San Juan, there are 5 flights a day from San Juan to Mayaguez 15 minutes from RIncon, www.flycapeair.com you can purchase a ticket book of 10, the price used to be $600, and you all can use the coupons... looks like you would need 2 books for your group, additionally it's a beautiful flight right across the Island, it's like taking a Helicoptor Tour! If the connections do not work with your flight it's easier to just drive over, it's often the best way and most economical, rent a mini van and a car for your family, it should take about 2 and a half hours to get here. You may also have a 9 passenger van take you over, and leave the driving to someone else, that usually ranges $150 for the whole van each way, as you really need a car to best enjoy Rincon, the $300 you spend to get here and back to San Juan you could use to pay for one of the cars for a week! If you are renting a beachfront villa here in RIncon, ususally the owner-hosts should be pretty good about making recommendations for your transportation and activities here in RIncon. Veel plezier!

One more suggestion...When traveling to Europe we often connect through JFK, or Newark, not Chicago, from Newark you can fly Continental direct to BQN, and from JFK you can fly JetBlue direct to BQN, Iberia has a direct to San Juan from Madrid, it's often pricey...if you are planning to visit during the Christmas Holidays be sure to secure a Villa or Inn very soon, many reserve a year in advance for the Holidays
