The Jewish district (Josefov on Czech language maps) is good for a first trip to Prague as it is just north of the town square and it has lots of charming old city streets and plenty of restaurants and bars. It's about 15/20 minute walk to Wenceslas Square and the central train station.

I like Kampa, (for example try hotel Roma). The most romantic area in Prague. The Jewish district is very good choice too, but I´m not sure, if Wenceslas Square can I recommend!

From Wikipedia: Kampa (also Na Kampě) is an island in the Vltava river in central Prague on the side of Malá Strana. Charles Bridge crosses its northern tip and is connected to the island by the Street na Kampě. It is separated from Malá Strana by a narrow artificial channel to the west called the Devil's Stream (Čertovka), a waterway dug to power water mills (no longer existent). It is supposedly to be named after a sharp-tongued woman who lived in a local home called the Seven Devils. [1]

Hallo, me and my friends we were also in Prague, we stayed at the Hostel U Melounu. I know its not a hotel, but it was really nice, clean, staff was helpfull and they have gorgeous garden...

And its in the centre, like 10 minutes by walk to the Wenceslas sq. Hope this will help you.

Have fun in Prague

If you could give a little more details on price I think you would get lots of options.

I would stay within the Old Town Square area or Mala Strana. With just three days I would stay central so you can walk to almost everything.

I like the Ventana myself. Great hotel, right next to Old Town Square, you can walk to everything from here. Friendly employees who all speak English and great rooms.

Have also stayed at Iron Gates Suites. Also very nice and great employees.

I am staying at the Intercontinental by the Castle. I know local hotels are probably the ones of choice, but I travel quite a bit and enjoy free nights.

Therefore, any hints on using this hotel as my base of operations?

Thanks to all.

We stayed at the William hotel last weekend. It's quite cheap (around 50 euros a night) and is situated in Mala Strana, only 5 minutes walk to the Charles Bridge. It has nice, baroque decor as well. Would definitely stay there again.
