Looking at Possible May Visit--Which Hotel?

Looking at a possible May visit to Prague as I understand the weather starts warming up that month....I visited once in August, 2000 and stayed at the Palace Praha. I was satisfied with the hotel but was wondering if I could do better while keeping my choices limited to $250 US/nightt or lower (otherwise, I'd stay at the Buddha Bar). ...from the list below, is there a consensus as to which would be the best hotel to stay at in terms of comfort, walking distance to major sites, and a decent hotel gym would be nice:

Palace Praha

Hotel Pariz

Sheraton Prague (I know, US chain, but it looks nice).

Hotel Yasmin

Are there any others that meet my criteria that would meet my requirements not listed above?

Also, I just watched "Casino Royale" again on TV this weekend and understand the 'hotel/casino' used in that film was actually in Karlovy Vary, not Montenegro...if that is true and Karlovy Vary is worth visiting, how far a drive (time) is it from the center of Prague...also, would it be possible to tie in a visit to Cesky Krumlov on the same 1 day trip?...if not and you had to choose between Karlovy Vary and Cesky Krumlov which would you choose?

Many thanks for your help.

If you don't mind being a longer walk (or short transport) ride away from the main sights/sites, I think you could get more for your money outside of P1.

For example, check out the Hotel Le Palais, the Ametyst, or Sieber.

Hallo, I am a local so I have never stayed in a hotel in Prague. I can just comment the location and what I've heart from my clients. I wouldn't go for the Sheraton - Zitna street is just too busy with cars and a bit dirty streets.

Hotel Yasmin - close the Wenceslass Square, also a bit busy, but not so dirty streets.

Palace Praha is apparently not really 5 stars hotel what I have heart from people who stayed there....Also close to Wenceslass Square, the largest and busiest boulevard in Prague.

I would go for hotel Pariz - it has a long and exciting tradition, there was shot a famous Czech film "I have served the king of England"....If you like Art-Nouveau style- why not....

Casino Royal was certainly shot in Karlovy Vary - Grand hotel Pupp.

All the international film stars are accommodated there during the annual Film festival held at the beg of July. I like that spa town actually only during the festival time - it has a great atmosphere! Otherwise it's a sleepy town with mineral springs and hotels full of foreigners. I would prefer to go to Cesky Krumlov and would stay there over a night :-)

Have fun! M.

I agree, Yasmin although it is a modern design type hotel. Why not have a look at the Grand hotel Bohemia or even the K+K Central

The Icon Hotel. It is great - small, stylish, amazing customer service, good rooms, good prices and quiet location. I would stay there again!

Returned yesterday from Hotel Pariz.

Great hotel in superb central location, staff and facilities first class. Booked bed and breakfast for great price. Would reccomend this hotel.
