Train or bus from Prague to Cesky Krumlov?

I know that this has been covered in the past, but I'd like to check again....

Is the best way to CK by way of the fast train to Ceske Budejovica and then the local train from there to CK?

Is there also a bus from C Budejovica?

What time is the first train from Prague?

Thank you!

Refer to www.idos.cz for all times (English button bottom right)

Most people go by bus, but the train is fine, just a bit slower - about 3 hours 40 by train vs. c. 3 hours by bus, depending on traffic.

The train costs 250 Crowns, and the bus is 185 Crowns, but you can buy cheaper tickets for the train in advance to České Budějovice (ČB) for 150 Crowns from https://www.cd.cz/eshop/sporotiket.aspx at least three days in advance, or at least one day in advance in person from the station. Then you pay the ticket collector for the ČB to ČK section on the train, or at ČB station. There are also buses from ČB which are probably better - the bus station is across the road.

NB you should check out ČB - it is a very nice city, and of course is home to the real Budweiser! (you probably know it already, but the German for České Budějovice is Budweis).

The Student Agency bus from Prague to CK is the best bet. It's cheap, direct, and easy. I did it last Tuesday.

That's OK - an easy impression to have. As it is a well-known brand in the Czech Republic, and 99% of their passengers are local and know what the score is, they are never going to change the name ...

I've been looking at the Student Agency site.

I see they cover a wide area.

I can't read many of the cities or countries.

Does their bus go from Ceske Budejovice to Linz or Vienna.

Need to get to Budapest.

Thanks!

From Český Krumlov to Budapest as per my previous reply tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g274707-i96-k44829…

Student Agency doesn't go on these routes directly, but you can you go back via Prague, however it takes longer. Using the drop-down box on the English version of the Student Agency website, select 'Český Krumlov' under 'Czech Republic' as the departure point and 'Budapest' under 'Hungary' as destination and away you go! At c. €30 it is probably the cheapest way to do it, but it is the slowest.

In general, do you feel that the best way (route) is to get some bus in CK and go to Linz and then get the train there to Budapest?

Do you think that we would need to get the train ticket in advance of going to Linz or just get it there.

You can get any train on the day, however it will cost you more from Linz to Budapest than if you bought it in advance, as per my previous response.
