Sry, another train question...

Is it wise to buy tickets in advance from US ? Or if no discount on buying before we leave is it fine to just buy when we get there? Would it be same price?

Thanks!

Definitely buy tickets in advance, as the cheaper seats on most trains are only available up to 3 days in advance and only online. If going to Olomouc, though, there is a lot of competition on that line, with three companies offering fast, sleek, comfortable trains for bargain basement prices. Check out:

https://www.cd.cz/eshop/default.aspx (the state railway company - make sure you take the Pendalino train)

http://www.le.cz/index.php (Leo Express - one private competitor)

http://bustickets.studentagency.eu/?0 (RegioJet - another private, run by the Student Agency bus company)

For international travel, always cheaper to buy on line but for domestic travel it really makes no difference whether you buy ticket on line or in person on some routes.

From Olomouc to Prague, special offer tickets from Czech railways cost 180 crowns (circa 10USD) either from Czech railways eshop or in person at the station but at least one day in advance. Pendolino trains are slightly faster, less stops, but it is necessary to buy reservation, hence more expensive.

In terms of Leo or Regiojet...currently Czech railways are the cheapest but their trains are modern and have wifi on board (I believe).

The difference in price is so small that I would wait until Olomouc....there is no rush tickets don't sell out and there are plenty of connections.

Oh thank you both so much!!! We are making a trip to Dresden for a few days with returning to Prague. Do we use the Czech website with a round trip ticket?? Wasn't sure since it will be traveling to different Country.

Thanks

Yes, use Czech railways eshop....although can use German railways but their tickets are a bit more expensive.

You can buy from 60 to 3 days in advance, sooner the better because the cheap tickets are limited in number. There is a price to pay for cheap tickets, they are non refundable and only usable on the specific

train for which tix bought.
