bus from Prague to Budapest

We would like to know if it is convenient and comfortable to travel by bus from Prague to Budapest (eg. are the bus stations conveniently placed in both cities with taxis readily available between hotels/holiday apartments and bus stations any time of the day or night?)

Is it safe and reliable to buy tickets on line?

Thank you!

We look at both options - is there a reason(s) to prefer the train? The bus seems cheaper and they take about the same time?

The train costs 19 euros and take 7 hours....I think the train would be more comfortable...which bus website are you looking?

http://www.cd.cz/en/

E-shop Czech Railways... you will enter your passport # during the order- after completion...print out your ticket/confirmation.

no need for first class and no need for reservations

https://www.cd.cz/eshop/

once you click on the eshop, you will have to change the language from Czech to English by clicking on 'en' top line right,

You can only buy tickets from 60 to 3 days in advance, the tickets are non changeable and non refundable.

Your ID will be your passport, just numbers and not letters (IF SA passport has letters)....if there are more than 1 of you, you need to use IDs for each person (required for international travel). The IDs are checked.

Good luck.

a few more tidbits

be patient with the system, it may take 1-3 tries to get through the process correctly as users are not familiar with the screens. .

..

generally, when you buy a ticket it is open..i.e. you can take any train at any time that day

**For this price/promotion you will select a specific time for the train...this ticket is non-refundable if you happen to miss the train. you're out of luck.

(FYI, the overnight train takes longer and will likely cost more ..personally, I;ve never felt the need to take an overnight, just go early as possible)

It depends what your idea of comfort is, everyone is different. Personally I would get the bus on this route, but it is entirely up to you.

once upon a time you wouldn't have seen me dead on a bus, but these new ones are a different proposition. Maninseat61 still wouldn't be seen dead on one :)
