A Short Day Trip By Train?

Hi folks

On our last day in Prague our flight leaves at 7.30pm, but we'll need to check out of our apartment in the morning.

We thought we'd go to the train station, leave most of the luggage in storage, and then go somewhere interesting on the train for the day. We've done similar when getting late flights out of Zurich and find it's a good way of getting the most out of the day.

Would anyone have suggestions about what places might make good day trip destinations within say an hour's train ride? As it will be the beginning of October we'd better have a wet weather option up our sleeve also.

top right of the page is a topic about day trips

Kutna Hora..about 55 mins by train

=======

about 40 mins from the center (southerly direction) is http://www.zamek-konopiste.cz/history/

you can take a look at the exterior/interior photos

"The utterly most important and famous owner of the Konopiste Castle was the archduke Fratisek (Franz) Ferdinand d'Este, a successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 became a pretext of the the World War I.

2 km from the train station..walk or catch a local taxi..you can have lunch in Benesov

trains run hourly..both the direct and the slower Elephant sightseeter train

Great suggestions from tejashombre been to both places more than once and they are an easy day trip from Prague leaving you plenty of time to get back for your flight.

Karlstejn castle would also be a consideration , about 40 minutes from Prague by train.

or you could go up north....50 minutes by train to Nelahozeves....the birthplace of Antonin Dvorak , museum and Nelahozeves castle...and as a bonus you can see "lovely" Kralupy on the way.

Direct trains run from Masarykovo railway station.
