You can take a night train which is longer (has a sleeper accommodation) or a day train which is about 7 hours.

buy tickets from Czech railways eshop from 60 days in advance, non changeable non refundable.,

(you can buy day train 1st class if you so wish)

for English click en top line right

Once again thanks Tilly. How safe is the overnight train? I noticed you have over 18,000 forum posts. MUST be a record!

nowhere near the top, one of my colleagues has 67 thousand posts ....lol

I am sure the night train is fine..how many of you are there? If only 2 you can get a nice two people sleeper and it's cheap.

The night train is comfortable www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/CZ/CD_WLABmee.php

€49 in a 3-berth, €59 in a 2-berth

Buy from the above link, choose English option top right.

Overnight is the best way to travel, and perfectly safe - you can lock the door from the inside and nobody will bother you.

Tilly 41 confirmed that as well but we are joining a river cruise in Budapest and can't get onboard until the PM, so to get there first thing in the A;M, with luggage etc. doesn't gain us anything. It's been a long time since we have been on a train and after running around in Prague for 4 days we probably will enjoy the scenary and experience.

I must be computer challenged. Which block is the choice for English translation on the Czech railway website?

Hi Windsor 135, I had the same issue when I first went to the site. There should be the letters EN (English) in the upper right hand box of the screen. Click on it and the conversion should happen.

Hello. I am doing the same thing, Prague for 4 days and on to Budapest for a river cruise.

We are planning to take the 9:39 train from Prague to Budapest. Is it best to buy tickets in advance or can we just buy at the station.

Do the tickets sell out?
