Overnight train from Prague to Krakow

Hello,

We will be catching the overnight train from Prague to Krakow next week. Does anyone have any advice or tips on what to expect and/or what we can do to ensure the journey is a good one? Have not been on overnight train before and don't know what to expect. Eg what time will we cross the border, do we have to get off the train with luggage etc?

Thanking you in advance.

I haven't taken the train in a long. long time, so I don't know what it is like inside, though everyone says it is very nice. But no worries about the border - both the CR and Poland are in the Schengen area, so you won't even notice that there was a border. No border check, and certainly no getting off the train. The only change will be the conductors, but they will work things out themselves and not wake you up. So expect to get on the train in Prague and then not be bothered by anyone the rest of the trip. Do make sure that you lock your compartment and watch out for your belongings, just to be safe.

Good news. Thanks JeffinPrague. I hope we do have a sleeper cabin now. The booking site was very confusing and no where on our confirmation does it indicate sleeper couches.

Hopefully you bought it from www.cd.cz/eshop - and check that you didn't get just a reservation but a travel ticket as well. It should have cost around €59 each.

Wagonweb.cz is showing a more modern sleeper on this train now - www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/CZ/CD_WLABmee.php

Polrail, can you confirm? Until recently, it's always been one of the old-style 1960s era cars.

You're free to take along a picnic and bottle of wine or beer if you like, to drink in your compartment - all good fun!

As far as I can see, Prague-Krakow still has the older, traditional car:

The modernized car with the shower runs to Warsaw.

Hmm, thanks Jeffrey. Must be going senile - or vagonweb corrected something. I'm sure I clicked on 'Silesia', but hey!
