IBIS is fine, good location

-next to Palladium shopping center

-A few hundred meters away you can catch TRAM 5 over to Malostranska and switch to TRAM 22 to get you up and behind the castle. From there it is all downhill to cover the so called left bank. You'll come across most if not of all the things you mention.

There is no Prague castle per se, it is the various government buildings surround St. Vitus Church. It is up to you if you want to take the tour. of the interior places. (you can visit the foyer of St. Vitus but need a ticket to tour further inside)

changing of the guard at noon, otherwise not a big deal at other times

FYI, hotel is near Municipal House

Charles Univ does not have a traditional campus and is spread out among several different buildings around Prague...there is nothing really to look at...possibly.Karolinum courtyard next to Estates Theater.
