Brno - a 4 day stay

Hey,

I read all the posts here, read the articles but would need some more help to plan the weekend in Brno with my boyfriend. We decided to change Prague for Brno. We are coming with a car, from 27th to 30th April.

I am thinking about two hotels: Design Hotel Noem Arch or Hotel Arte. I read that the center is closed for cars and would need your help. Which of the two hotels you recomend and which one has secured parking?

Also there are so many tips about bars, night life, food...I will try just to follow my "nose". But still, are there any bars with 80 music (or anything else than the modern dance / electro music)?

Someone mentioned in the forum that this weekend is some fair? What kind of events are going on?

Maybe we will also play some golf. Any recomendations for a golf course?

Thanks for all the help, links and ideas everyone already posted here.

Of those two probably Hotel Arte. Noem Arch is interesting, but in the wrong place.

Hotel Arte is in a grand residential area with the Lužánky park next door. Very pleasant, and the Tugendhat Villa is a short walk away.

Re. fair - this is not a fun fair, but a trade fair at the exhibition centre http://www.bvv.cz/en/ so unless you are interested in sanitary ware, furniture or town planning it won't be of great interest.

Parking in front of the Arte should be safe. As with anywhere, don't leave valuables in your car. You might also consider Hotel Europa which is nearby. There is no point trying to drive into the centre as it is closed to traffic, and also public transport is very good indeed.

A cool bar (if you can find it) http://www.daguerre.cz/o-salonu/media-o-nas - a well-hidden door on Slovákova, just off Veveří street, where there are also some decent places. Unlike many cities, the best places are not actually in the centre - I'm trying to think of somewhere that might have 80's music - perhaps http://www.mersey.cz/

or http://fleda.cz/program

http://www.livingstoneclub.cz/en/

http://www.selepova.cz/program-klubu (oldies parties every Friday and Saturday)

That should keep you busy :)

Golf: Kaskáda seems to be the favourite http://www.golfbrno.cz/english/index.php it isn't for me, but I know plenty of people who have become slaves to the sport :)

Dear GZEK,

thank you so much for the information. I went over all the links and I am sure we will have a great time this weekend.

How far is the hotel Arte from the centre? Do you suggest maybe another hotel? As we might go for a day trip to Prague and then in Brno walk around the city it would be nice to be in walking distance to the city centre. How much is the taxi? Or do you suggest the bus?

Thanks,

Petra

If you are staying in the Arte it is maybe a nice 10-15 minute walk to the centre or a couple of stops on the tram - there are no buses in or to the centre (just trams and trolleybuses) and a taxi would be a waste of money for such a short journey.

As it is a trade fair this weekend the options for accommodation might be more limited than usual, but if you want to stay right in the centre check out Hotel Pegas or even barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/en_GB/hotels/Czech… and see if you can get a good price from them - make them an offer.

Have fun!
