I am worrying about that too. We fly in on the 15th and I can't stop checking the weather every few hours! Let us know how you get on

Diversions are usually because of fog, not snow

While it happens more than it does at Glasgow airport, let me try and put things into perspective a little.

In over three years, flying roughly once a month in and once a month out of Krakow, I have never been delayed or diverted. Some months more frequently!

only one person that has come to visit me has had a flight delayed/diverted. they were flying out and had to be bussed to Katowice to get their flight.

Flights that are affected are usually before 9am and after 8pm although very occasionally the fog does not lift all day.

There was a fog problem between Christmas and New Year but as far as I can tell the airport has been operating normally the last 3 weeks.

The problem early last week was caused by a lot of rain falling during a very cold night, most of the region woke to find it covered with thick black ice. My car had almost an inch of solid ice all over it.

Flights, trains and traffic were badly affected, but were back to normal the following day.

Flights are very rarely cancelled, but if they're diverted the airline will bus you to Krakow. So either way, you'll get there just maybe a little later than you expected.

Hi Scottish poet

You are a very lucky boy!!!

1. Never been attacked/threatened

2. No delays / re-routred flights

I have had two 12 hour delays at Balice (KRK airport), once on a Tuesday (I requested my flight was pushed back rather than take the rescheduled flight at 6am Wednesday) and then on the re-sheduled flight on the Thursday was delayed by 12 hours!!! Grrrrrr!!!!!!! (Neither of these delays were due to the weather in Krakow)

I have been diverted from Balice to Katowice due to high winds at Balice and the pilot did not want to risk landing in the strong winds

A week last Sunday the inbound flight to Balice (the flight we were catching back to England) diverted to Katowice due to fog (although visibility seemed ok, unless they meant low clouds)

Surprising as it may seem Mark, it isn't that unusual 'NOT' to be attacked in Krakow, in 6 1/2 years i've never even felt threatened, let alone seen any particular occasions of violence.

For what its worth regarding flights, in over 50 return journeys, I've had 1 x 24hr delay (krakow fog), 1 x 3hr delay (Krakow fog) and 1 x 5hr delay (Liverpool snow). The rest all pretty much on time.

Mark,

I don't consider myself lucky

I would consider you to be particularly unlucky
