Zakopane weather?

We are looking to take our first holiday in Poland and have chosen Zakopane as a possible destination.

We are keen walkers and would like to do some low level hikes around the bottom of the mountains (unfortunately, we have reached the age where we can no longer do strenuous climbs without using chair lifts etc.)

What we would like to know, before researching hotels/flights etc, is what would be the best time of the year for us to consider coming. We don't really want to aquire a sun tan and don't really want to bring an umbrella. Spring time we do like, with the meadows in full bloom and enough sunshine to keep us warm.

Any help would be appreciated.

Spring comes late to the mountains. For me the best time for Tatras is early June, children are still at school so less crowds than during the summer and probably less hot. If you want to focus on lower parts of the mountains then even late April will be fine and definitely May. Avoid May 1-3 as it's a public holiday in PL and crowds will be bigger.

You will probably fly to Krakow as it's the nearest airport so don't forget to spend some time there, it's a beautiful city.
