Question on behalf of a Warsaw Ghetto survivor...

Hello everyone -- this is actually the OPPOSITE of the usual type of discussion we have on TA, but I thought I'd give it a try. My father, a Polish survivor approaching age 90, has always wanted to see his old neighborhood in Warsaw but is now forced to accept that his health makes it impossible for him to make the trip. I wonder if anyone on this forum has made i or knows of any video tours of Warsaw and especially of the Warsaw Ghetto area as it is today?

One idea would be to check out Google Maps - most of Poland is mapped now.

There are very few building that survived as they were before the war. Most of Warsaw was destroyed in or following the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Here are some pictures that show how it all looked after the war: www.stacjamuranow.art.pl/files/Augustyn.jpg taken in 1945, stacjamuranow.art.pl/files/getto_muranow.jpg taken in 1948, www.stacjamuranow.art.pl/files/nowolipki2.jpg today's Nowolipki street, area close to the current Museum of the History of Polish Jews: stacjamuranow.art.pl/files/getto_ulice.jpg

Thanks everyone. I know/ he knows that nothing remains, but I think he will enjoy looking at these postewar pictures and seeing how things have changed, too. And thanks, JohnB, for the Google Maps idea.

The Polish Press Agency recorded a few short youtube videos showing certain parts of the ghetto as they are today. They are all in Polish, hope it's not a problem.

BTW. Not only whole Warsaw is included in Google streetview, eg:

http://goo.gl/maps/DzPwc

(Miła 18, where ZOB bunker was located)

but also aerial photos of Warsaw from 1935 and 1945 (showing the 95% destruction, close to 100% in case of the Ghetto area) are included in Google Earth. There is a scrollbar near the top of the GE window where you pick the date and compare both views with the contemporary one. These area was so destructed that in many cases the pattern of the streets is different than it used to be, with many streets not present anymore.

Also, see those (not ghetto area thou)
